Why Fat Wool?

In the current consumer environment of instant downloads and overnight delivery, the Fat Wool Co. celebrates the art of knitting and crocheting by hand.  We recognize the necessity of small farms to the health and well being of a community.  The Fat Wool Co. buys wool from small family farmers, especially those working to preserve heirloom breeds.  Our wool is manufactured by a family owned fiber mill and all of our products are handmade in Michigan.

With your purchase of Fat Wool products, you are helping us support farmers, families and celebrating the craft of handmade art.

Charlotte Diller

With the love of chunky yarn and many visits to her local fiber mill, Charlotte developed the idea of custom yarn for very thick blankets and rugs. She realized there was a market for this idea and with her father's help for a name, Fat Wool Co. was created. From the quality of the wool and processed yarn to the overall design and handwork of the product, Charlotte creates quality craftsmanship through all her products. She encourages people to appreciate the experience of keeping warm with a Fat Wool blanket or standing on the softness of a Fat Wool rug. Since she started knitting, her hands have rarely been still and she loves to hear from clients with special requests or commission work.

"Looking back on this journey, there is one thing that connects each craft I have practiced along the way; it is the tactile satisfaction of transforming fiber with my hands into something new."
